Transformation Department was created in 2007 after the first Strategic Defence Review. Its establishment was a sign of concern about the cohesion and harmony of transformational efforts undertaken in the Ministry of National Defence. It was also a response to the need of bridging the gap to other NATO and EU countries.

   The mission of the Transformation Department is to indicate strategic directions for the MoND and Polish Armed Forces transformation. The basis for development of a comprehensive vision of the future Polish Armed Forces is preparing and conducting periodic Strategic Defence Reviews. Other responsibilities of the Transformation Department include initiating the transformation process, harmonising and monitoring key transformational activities within the MoND.
